Pay it Forward Book Drive

Book Drive for Incarcerated People in the Hudson Valley

October 12- Nov. 1st

Pay it forward this October at your library with the Great Give Back. Libraries from across the Hudson Valley will be participating in The Great Give Back, a state-wide initiative to provide a day of opportunities for library patrons to participate in meaningful community service experiences. As part of the Great Give Back, the Howland Public Library in Beacon will be holding a book drive for incarcerated people in the Hudson Valley. Drop off new and gently used books to be donated and distributed to those in need through the Mid Hudson Library System.

For this first drive, the Library is requesting recent popular adult fiction and adult and YA graphic novels. The library is especially hoping to receive donations of graphic novels as these books are in high demand. Paperbacks preferred. Donors can drop off books inside the library after 12pm any day the library is open from October 12- November 1. A special red bin will be located next to the youth services desk.

The library asks that the books be in good condition and will not be able to accept books with stains, tears, odors, notes, underlining or highlighting. For more details and a full list of acceptable and unacceptable items go to www.beaconlibrary.org/book-drive.

The state-wide Great Give Back program is brought to our region thanks to a partnership between the Mid-Hudson Library System and the Sustainable Thinking & Action Round Table (START) of the New York Library Association in recognition of the critical role libraries play in co-creating sustainable, resilient communities throughout New York.
